Are you a human BEING? Or a human DOING?
From my own experience and many people I’ve coached, I would say – we are a human DOING probably more than 90% of the time.
We live in a society where we tie our values to constant output and achievements.
We often feel guilty or feel the need to shame ourselves into actions when we are not producing.
The “DOING” offers us temporary relief from our judgements and insecurity.
That’s why we wear overwork like a badge of honor.
That’s why we know we are on the verge of burnout but continue to trash our mind and body.
That’s why our mind runs 120 miles per second on too many things simultaneously.
Because, our mind has problems comprehending – who am I if I’m not doing something.
Sound familiar?
This is how we’ve been programmed to be – human doing.
Yet, many people’s deepest desire is to be a human BEING.
- Being present in the moment
- Being our authentic self
- Being silly and playful
- Being in the flow
- Being truly seen
- Being a real human (instead of not-so-well-oiled machine) with compassion and empathy
We fear that if we are not a “human doing”, our world will fall apart.
Yet, the truth is completely the opposite.
- When we are present in the moment, we get to experience the world fully.
- When we are our authentic self, we respect ourselves and build true connections!
- When we are silly and playful, we feel alive.
- When we are in the flow, we are in constant joy. Everything else melted away. Real creation happens!
- When we are truly seen, we feel belonging and security.
- When we are a real human BEING, we get to live OUR life instead of living someone else’s life.
Now, who would you like to be?
Human doing or human being?
Neither is right or wrong. We need both to make things work. It’s part of being a human as well!
The real question is – are you driving your doing from fears or who we are as a human being.
Love, Wen
